UCA Graduates 3 High School LIFT Students

Congratulations to the Class of 2019 Uwharrie Charter High School Student Lift Graduates: Maggie Kern, Emma McArthur and Montana Wright. UCA had 3 of the 26 graduates from Randolph County. Montana Wright was awarded with 2019 REMC's Empowered Youth Leadership Award.
These 3 incredible young ladies worked diligently serving our community.

Montana Wright, Sophomore at Uwharrie Charter Academy, raised $1,611 for the Humane Society of Randolph County through her Student Lift project, the Fur & Fuel Car Show. The fundraiser was held at UCA High School on November 18. The event was a great success with a total of 14 cars entered in the contest, competing in five different categories for division winner titles and special recognition awards.
Maggie Kern, Senior at Uwharrie Charter Academy, chose to sell "Uwharrie Eagle" bracelets for her Student LIFT community service project. She sold the bracelets for one dollar a piece at basketball games, band concerts, and during lunch at the each school. The goal for the fundraiser was $200 but Maggie ended up exceeding her goal with a grand total of $700. All funds raised went to the UCA Music Program.
Emma McArthur, Sophomore at Uwharrie Charter Academy, centered her LIFT service project around volunteerism. When planning her project, she wanted to focus on our county's growing elderly population, as well as create and inspire people young and old to give back to the communities that brought them up. Emma visited individual classrooms to teach young children about the importance of volunteerism, played music at 10 different nursing homes on several occasions, brought several volunteers along to play at the senior centers as well as Sunset Theater. Her initial goal was to reach about 300 people with her music but she surpassed that goal by reaching 1340 people and about 50 student volunteers.
UCA thanks you for your hard work and dedication to our community!
