1st Annual UCA Wild Game Supper

UCA will host its first ever Wild Game Supper Feb. 2 from 6 to 8 pm @UCA Middle School. Along with the meal, there will be a guest speaker from Backcountry Hunters and Anglers as well as a draw down raffle for several prizes throughout the evening.  
All of the proceeds from the evening will go to support the hunter safety and trades programs at UCA Middle in their endeavor to build a handicapped accessible hunting blind that will be donated to the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. On our March flex day, our classes will be delivering the blind to the Uwharrie National Forest Game Land and assembling it.

UCA's Amanda Whatley- 1st Place Penguin Random House Teacher Award for Literacy

AMANDA WHATLEY First Place $10,000 Grant Recipient High School English Teacher UWHARRIE CHARTER ACADEMY Asheboro, NC High school teacher Amanda Whatley’s passion for learning and teaching is apparent. She uses various evidence- based practices in her classroom to reach all learners. The Monster Literacy Night project is designed to engage students in literacy practices that include reading, analyzing, researching, and knowledge-sharing. The overall objective of the program is to encourage a lifelong love of reading and research in students of all ages, and to make difficult texts accessible to all students. This program earned her the First Place 2018 Penguin Random House Teacher Award for Literacy.
